Could I be a highly sensitive person?

Do you feel deeply affected by the world around you? Do you notice subtle shifts in someone’s tone, feel overwhelmed by busy environments, or carry other people’s emotions long after a conversation ends?

This quiz can help you reflect on whether highly sensitive person traits may be shaping your anxiety, relationships, boundaries, and sense of self. It is not a diagnostic tool, but it can give you a clearer starting point for understanding what you may be experiencing.

Bright lights, loud sounds, strong smells, crowded spaces, or uncomfortable textures can feel overwhelming to my system.

16 / 16

I notice subtle changes in someone’s tone, expression, energy, or body language, and I keep thinking about what they might mean.

Being a highly sensitive person (HSP) often means you experience the world with more depth and intensity. Small shifts in someone’s tone may stay with you. Conflict may feel hard to shake off. After a busy, loud, or emotionally charged day, you may need real time to recover.

Sensitivity can also show up in your body. You might feel tense, drained, overwhelmed, or aware that your nervous system is taking in more than it can comfortably hold.

For many HSPs, the hardest part comes from years of being told they are “too much,” “too emotional,” or “overthinking.” Over time, that can make you question your own reactions. You may minimize your needs or push yourself to function as if things do not affect you as deeply as they do.

Highly sensitive traits can also be real strengths. You may be thoughtful, intuitive, compassionate, and deeply attuned to what matters. But those same strengths can become painful when anxiety, people-pleasing, fear of judgment, or relationship stress makes it hard to trust yourself and set boundaries.

This quiz is a place to begin noticing your patterns with more compassion. It is not a diagnosis, but your answers can help you reflect on whether HSP traits are shaping your emotional life, relationships, and sense of self. If the results ring true for you, therapy with Kat Vollono, LCSW, can help you understand your sensitivity, care for your nervous system, and begin relating to yourself with more confidence and ease.
